Do you often suffer from headaches? If so, you are not alone. Migraines and other types of headaches are widespread. Often the pain is very severe and greatly affects the quality of life of those affected.
In some cases, headaches can be caused by dehydration or stress. In other cases, however, they can be a sign of a more serious problem. If your headaches persist for several days, then you should definitely see a doctor or physiotherapist to find and treat the cause of your pain.
In this blog post, we'll look at some of the most common causes of headaches and show you how physiotherapy can help.
Common causes of headaches
-dehydration
-Stress
-tensions
-Working on the screen
-Compressed pine
All this can lead to headaches, but how? Let's look at the individual causes.
Dehydration can cause headaches because when the body is dehydrated, it withdraws water from the brain to compensate. This in turn can lead to headaches.
Stress is another common cause of headaches. When we are stressed, our muscles tense up and we tense our body. These cramps and tensions then often lead to pain in the head.
Tension headaches are caused by tension in the muscles of the neck and scalp. This type of headache is often described as a "band-like" pain that surrounds the head.
When we stare at a screen for a long time, we often strain our eyes. As a result, we often squint our eyes and feel tense. The result: headaches.
A tense jaw is another common cause of headaches. When we clench our teeth and put a lot of strain on the jaw muscles, it can lead to headaches.
Tips to relieve headaches
Regular breaks
Stress can cause headaches because when we are stressed, our body tenses up and this leads to tension. To avoid stress, it is important to take regular breaks during work or in times of high pressure to switch off from the hard routine. Go for a walk with friends or do something you enjoy to switch off from the stressful daily routine.
A lot of movement
If you have a headache, exercise in the fresh air can help relieve it. By moving in the air, you loosen your muscles, get more oxygen and your blood circulation improves. This can help to relieve the pain.
Sufficient sleep
Even if you have a busy day, it is important that you take time for yourself. You should sleep between eight and ten hours every night to start the new day rested. If you find it difficult to rest, try autogenic training or take a relaxing bath before you go to bed.
Physiotherapy
If you suffer from headaches, then physiotherapy can help to relieve the pain in many cases. In our physiotherapy practice, we examine you extensively to find the cause of your headaches and create an individual treatment plan for you.
With the help of manual therapy and massages we want to help you loosen and relax your muscles. Stretching and strengthening exercises can improve posture and blood circulation. In many cases, this can prevent further tension, strengthen the muscles and relieve headaches. You are welcome to convince yourself of the treatments in our practice.
