Athletes are always on the go and need to be in top shape at all times. They spend hours, days, weeks training and pushing themselves as hard as they can so they can compete with other athletes. But there is one thing that athletes fear more than anything else - injury. What if their body gives out during competition or training? How will they know what to do if it happens? In this blog post you will find some tips on how to protect yourself from injuries such as torn ligaments, strains or fractures.

Follow these tips to strengthen your body and avoid injury:

1. warm up before training

Strained muscles are very painful and can lead to a long time out of your beloved sport. However, warming up properly can prevent this. Stretch your body with simple exercises to prepare it for the athletic strain that awaits it. In our Functional Training course, you will learn appropriate stretching exercises and an effective full-body workout to get your body in peak shape.

2. don't take on too much at once

Especially when you start a sport, you often want to achieve the best results as quickly as possible. This ambition leads many athletes, especially beginners, to neglect their bodies and overdo it in training without realising that they too have limits. This is not only important for your health, but also because you are more likely to get injured if you train more than your muscles can handle. For this reason, beginners should start slowly and gradually increase the intensity of their training. Find out what your limits are and improve steadily.

3. take regular breaks

Regular breaks are important to recharge your batteries. So you can safely take a few days off from exercising . If you don't want to give up exercise completely, you can go for a leisurely walk or cycle. Or simply treat yourself to a massage to loosen up and relax your muscles - for example in our physiotherapy practice;)

4. prepare your body for sporting exertion

You want to avoid injuries? Then you should prepare your body for the sporting stresses such as running, jumping or throwing. In our physiotherapy practice, I will create a training plan for you that fits you and your sport exactly. The aim is to improve your endurance, strength, coordination and flexibility and to prepare your muscles, tendons and joints for the sporting challenges. Through a full body work out, we aim to reduce your deficits while building on your strengths. Your body is more resilient when it is well prepared.

Have you heard of functional training?

In our physiotherapy practice, we offer a functional training course. Our sports physiotherapists show you how to train specific movement sequences and muscle groups. The focus here is on stabilising your body and strengthening your muscular system, muscle attachments, tendons and joints for everyday life or preparing them for intensive sporting stress.
