Sport is your hobby? Then you might know this. After each day of training, you feel tired and listless. This is normal, because your body is being put under a lot of strain to keep up with the demands of the training. After a certain period of time, your performance may not improve despite regular training. If this is the case, then you should ask yourself what you can do about it. You may not realise it, but there are many things that can affect how well or poorly you perform in sport.

Here are 5 tips to improve athletic performance:

1. prepare properly for your workout

Make sure you warm up before every workout. This gets the blood pumping through your body and muscles, making them more flexible. It also helps you prepare mentally for the strenuous workout ahead.

2. drink enough before training

Drink plenty of water before exercising. Dehydration is a common side effect of exercise. To counteract this, drink 400 - 500 millilitres of water shortly before training. The water helps prevent dehydration and gives you enough energy to get through physical exertion.

3. get enough rest

In order to recover sufficiently after any training session or competition, make sure you get enough sleep and also give your body plenty of nutrients from food sources such as vegetables, fruit and meat. Don't overdo it with training, because you need rest to recharge your batteries.

4. recognise your strengths and weaknesses

To improve your performance, you should know exactly where your strengths and weaknesses lie. For example, if you play football and have good shooting power, but your stamina leaves a lot to be desired, then you should work specifically on improving your stamina. Be aware of where your weaknesses lie. Also, feel free to ask your coach or teammates for feedback.
